Shun fanaticism, bridge gap
there is an american authority referred to as wasp which means white anglo-saxon protestant (white americans of british protestant ancestry). historically, they represented a distinctive class of the american society that had dominated politics, money, culture, and justice. they excluded other white americans such as the germans, irish, jews and others. the influence of this class remained until world war ii, when its end witnessed a shift towards giving or receiving better positions and rights from those who were outside. the 1960s, especially the election of john kennedy, who was an irish catholic, as the president, marked a dramatic turning point in the status of the wasp. it paved the way for the election of an african head of state after decades. the situation in kuwait is not different from that of the united states of america, which is a state of modern history that was originally founded on the shoulders of immigrants. it was therefore natural that there was a class that considered itself having more rights in the rule than others. a similar class achieved its goal in attaining wealth and status. both sides cooperated and managed to create an elite class which was similar to that in america but with a difference. with the passing of time in the 1960s and the beginning of parliamentary life, there have been many major breakthroughs for this elite class politically, financially, tribally and doctrinally. eventually, figures from outside the elite class were able to attain wealth for themselves, while the former elites had to distance themselves after others took their places. this is similar to what happened in all societies of the world. therefore, there is no real equality in any country. there is always a class of some kind that must be recognized by others, while on the other hand, we find attempts to penetrate it technically or materially, culturally or politically. the late actor abdulhussain, who was socially estranged from the elite class, had succeeded, despite all obstacles, in making himself a name, attaining popularity and gaining love in everyone’s hearts. there are, of course, thousands of others who, despite their humble ethnic and financial backgrounds, had achieved great successes politically, financially and socially, and were respected by all. we would like to say that it is impossible to have an ideal society with equality, even in communist or highly religious societies. there is always a class higher and more important than others. there are always limits that cannot be crossed with a class. even in the greatest democracies, such as britain, there is a clear elite class that is difficult to ignore. this is acceptable to the british people and they coexist with this, but try hard to climb up the social ladder and reach that level through art, money, reputation and achievements. we reiterate that it is difficult to eliminate - in general - class, bias or discrimination in any society. if equality claimants had the opportunity to be the upper class, they would certainly oppose the arrival of others. so they must stop complaining about discrimination, or try to change reality forcibly. there is no guarantee that they will be in a better position; therefore they must work hard and sincerely, develop themselves and take care of their family and education. this will inevitably narrow the differences between them and other groups of society. this is the only available and natural method. i am not speaking in a vacuum. i ask others to accept what cannot be accepted, but i write about my personal experience. after living for nearly 60 years, i never felt any real injustice or loss of my rights as a citizen. i never felt that i am not accepted or rejected in any diwaniya. i do not deny the existence of that rejection, but i know and accept it because it is a natural thing. this rejection is practiced by those who feel unfairness in their communities, but often without knowing. all of us, to some degree, are sectarian and racist. this is part of our human nature that cannot be erased without culture. to begin the process is to create a secular society in which the sunni is less sunni-like and the shiite is less shiitelike so as to say no to fanaticism. then the differences will inevitably become narrow. we are determined to adhere to our homeland, irrespective of the unfairness of some.
