Demise of a great man

the great artist abdulhussein abdulredha, about whom and whose masterpieces i have written articles, whom i enjoyed meeting and whose friendship, contact, and decency i will miss, has passed away. abu adnan has died, but not before he left us an artistic legacy and cultural heritage of endless smiles and laughter. i am not good at writing the articles of eulogy, and i usually avoid it, but abdulhussein was something else. therefore, i will use an article written by my saudi colleague tahani al-ramadhan. it is an article which contains a lot of what i want to say, and highlights the characters played by abdulhussein in his masterpieces and artistic work. therefore, i will quote it but with few changes. “when a man dies, his wife and sons as well as those who loved him will miss him and grieve the loss. but when a great man like abu adnan leaves us, the poor will lament over him. he alone shed light on their worries in a humorous manner, and makes them laugh while criticizing poverty. he also made traders laugh — it is the laughter of human beings, not the laughter of money. engineers also laughed after watching him play the role of “engineer noah” in his tv serials “private lesson”. troublemakers also cry for him, politicians and businessman will cry for everything that he warned them against. and tourists in london will cry as they knew him from his famous play “bye bye london”. egyptians, will not forget him due to his part in a tv series regarding when he bought their pyramids. the art industry as well as artists, leaders, children who have become men and women, and the elderly will not forget him. arabism as well, as it was the only thing they agreed upon even when they were tired due to the difficulty of agreement. he was not only a cultural heritage of kuwait, but he was the godfather of hearts from baghdad to china. we have grown up on his simplicity and his songs. through him, we were taught that laughter is a culture and not a vulgarity, that laughter is sweeter than love, that marriage with laughter is sweeter, and that life is only laughter and intelligence. abdulhussein was our escape from our agonies. he was a legend about whom we will tell our children and grandchildren. abu adnan, who was the hero of our times, passed away in london, but he remained everywhere. abu adnan, you entertained us from our birth until your death. we wish you eternal peace for your good soul”. abdulhussein abdulredha is the only man in kuwait’s non-political history who made the people — citizens and residents — love and admire his work for more than half a century. it is a duty for all of us to offer condolences to his family.
