The great moral crime

the investigations in the issue of the so-called ‘fake degrees’ is an ongoing process at the anti-corruption authority of kuwait. those who hold these certificates allegedly acquired them from one of the best educational institutions. according to investigators hundreds of such certificates were issued by the american university of athens (aua) which incidentally is just one apartment in a building. when the authority summoned, a number of people who hold certificates from the aua, have reportedly given contradictory statements. the authority also interrogated a legal offi- cer who worked for the ministry while another accused, a senior official is said to have refused to oblige. he has been formally summoned to continue interrogations with him. another official at the ministry of higher education is said to have confirmed that the american university of athens does not exist. he is accused of being responsible for sending ‘students’ to the university which does not exist, but he put blame on his superior. sources at the anti-corruption authority pointed out that an offi- cial at the ministry of higher education said some of those who hold the doctorate degrees did not even leave kuwait and never visited the country from where they got their degrees. the source said it is only surprising to know how these people who hold the fake degrees were appointed in senior positions without authenticating their documents. this is a case of lack of coordination between the concerned authorities. the sources also blamed the ministry of higher education for failing to introduce an advanced mechanism for checking the authenticity of the certificates. reportedly the concerned officials in the ministry met only three times in a clear case of disharmony among them. to be precise, some of the members are unwilling to meet. based on the above, the issue is limited to two things, one, the entire state, including the government, the ministry of education, university, and applied educational institutions, and perhaps hundreds or thousands of other officials, ministers and mps, are involved in some way or another in the issue of fake degrees. this is either because they are holding these degrees or have played an active role in the issue or are protecting those who hold these degrees or facilitate to obtain fake certificates, not to mention their current role in trying to hamper any serious attempt to identify the wrongdoers, exposing them and holding them morally accountable because this is a humanitarian and an educational crime. and two, the crime here is not related to a traffic accident or running over and killing someone, or trespassing on private property, theft or embezzlement, but rather a deliberate crime to ‘destroy’ the minds of tens of thousands of students and making a quick buck (millions of dinars) at the expense of these students. what these greedy men have done is harmed the future generation mentally because they will live the rest of their life with this guilt on their mind. these people who are responsible for issuing laws and legislation are actually toying with the ethics. is there a greater moral crime than this? is it not regretful that a majority of the mps who are on the committee of the negative phenomena are preoccupied with trivial issues such as mixing genders at swimming pools instead of paying attention to such a big crime? do you know now why nations have remained backward? note: i affirm that a majority, if not all, of those involved in this scandal are religious people who do not see any defect in what they have done, because all of them are ‘men’.
