The ‘indispensable’ man?

on april 20, 1994, i had written an article titled “underground world”. the following is an excerpt from that article. the local religious-political movements are shocked by the scandal which involves a cleric and includes a number of astonishing issues such as physical attacks, sexual assault and capturing of state properties as well as involvement in political conflicts with various religious currents. what increased the astonishment is the use of some methods that are usually used by intellectuals such as phone tapping, obtaining confessions through violence and recording personal conversations in order to put the other individual in a critical situation. i do not think there is anyone who knows exactly what happened. the reason is that one of the heroes involved in the scandal is a cleric and a sharia teacher who leads prayers in a mosque. he also gives sermons to thousands of people every friday. it is said that he has a special religious method and is backed by influenced political powers. his opponents are also strong. such factors make it difficult to know precisely what happened and who the liar is. the contradictory statements deem the need to figure out the truth but this is what the religious parties are afraid of. they are also worried about any investigation concerning this issue due to the negative consequences of such an investigation that will definitely not be in their favor either politically or religiously especially when they are busy collecting money for kosovo people. the events revealed the frustration of many official authorities because of the spread of news relating to the scandal. one of the assistant undersecretaries at ministry of awqaf and islamic affairs had issued a decision to prevent the abovementioned cleric from preaching or leading prayers in his mosque as soon as he heard the confessions of the cleric. however, he later regretted his decision and met the cleric and apologized to him. he also informed him that the minister of awqaf and islamic affairs will meet him. other senior officials of the ministry called for investigating the situations in the houses given to the imams and muezzins. two days later, the ministry regretted its decision and decided to withdraw the house given to the cleric because he used it in a way that violates the purpose of that house. the ministry again declared that the suspect has been prevented from giving sermons because of the house issue. hence, we conclude that there are many powers that work against the ministry and the government as a whole. we can also say that each body takes relevant actions in order to rescue the party that is close to it. all parties work on placing obstacles in the process of finding out the truth.
