‘Needs little more patience’

kuwait, like other undeveloped nations, suffers from security, moral, social and humanitarian problems. it appears there are no solutions for most of them while the rest continue to deteriorate.
i think many people will agree with me that the one issue that has deteriorated the most is the issue of the stateless people or those whom we called ‘bedoun’.
i think many people will also agree with me that the government has successfully chosen saleh al-fadhalah to manage the central system for remedying the status of illegal residents (csrsir), not only because he has loads of information about the subject, his long political experience and his clean reputation, but also because of his strength in facing the dilemma which has been looking for a radical solution for the past half a century.
in a relatively short time, al-fadhalah has in fact done a good job and we thank him for that. he has succeeded in accomplishing a great deal by unearthing many cases of forgery and saved the nation and the people from the evil which would be recorded in kuwait’s history.
but, fadhalah knows well that remaining as head of the csrsir is temporary. it is not a permanent job. his days as head seems to be numbered at a time when the number of bedoun is increasing and their problems are growing.
this is but natural, because nothing is forever, therefore, dear friend, a day may come when you will be forced by circumstances or age to step down and leave the responsibility of managing the csrsir to others. they perhaps may not be as strong and efficient as you? so do you control this? the answer is, of course no.
therefore, honest people like you must think and work hard to put an end to the problem of bedoun and clean this black stain from kuwait’s humanitarian face. the government must strive hard to ensure best citizens are chosen when committees are formed because there are many of them, especially to review the files of this category of people.
the job is to interview them, overcome administrative obstacles and divide them into categories.
the first category shall be granted the kuwaiti nationality, with strict and specific conditions. the second shall be granted permanent residence, to be followed by granting nationality to the second generation with strict security requirements and so on and then close the file of bedoun once and for all.
we repeat, dear friend, the future is not guaranteed, and it is better to end the problem in the best possible manner before someone comes after you and destroys what you have built.
