‘Practice what you preach’
in his defense of entertainment places in his country, one of the preachers says not everyone who owns a dance hall is dishonest. dance halls owned by the state are operated on sharia rules and have already been authorized by the guardian in public interest.
sheikh saleh earlier said that he is a believer in the sanctity of singing and playing music, and can in no way be suspected as haraam.
then as the days passed and the events followed, sheikh saleh himself appears shortly after announcing the establishment of a recreational institute in his homeland saying the experience of the recreational institute is a good proof of the correctness of what it is doing and wished the institute will do what is more complete and bigger.
cleric muhammad al-arifi has deafened our ears for more than 20 years with his sermons saying singing and playing music should be banned. he then disappeared for a fairly short period and reappeared on a bigger stage in front of a large audience to present the concert of his friend khaled abdel rahman. in his address he said he is standing in front of a big number of fans of khaled and prayed to god that people in heaven love singer khalid abdel rahman as people of the earth love him.
al-ghamdi – another preacher – says valentine’s day celebration means good dealing with others and that it is righteousness to celebrate it because this is an enhancement of the idea of love among people and exchanging congratulations on the occasion to develop good behavior in the communities and brush away hatred and strife. he said celebrating the occasion is not against islam and congratulators should not be described as debauchers.
it is needless to say this man himself and hundreds of others in various countries were among the fiercest opponents of valentine’s day celebrations and considered the celebration as mere imitation of infidels.
of course, there are dozens of other examples that cannot be mentioned in a small space such as the egyptian preacher muhammad al-zua’bi who has said that he will not back down from his fatwa related to the permissibility of eating flesh of the ‘jinn’. all of these turned out to be two painful issues:
the first is that it is a manifestation of backwardness in the societies when most of the characters that are followed on the platforms of social media are often the most manipulative in words and changing positions. this of course does not apply to everyone but to a majority, yet the pace of their followup with all their failures increases.
these examples and others show the extent of our situation and our backwardness, and our universal wretchedness in the ability of some to control our minds and take us to caves of darkness and ignorance, while allowing them to manipulate with our lives to their liking, knowing that there is no priesthood in islam and no profession for a cleric and no religious text ever mentioned them or describe their jobs or the need to submit and surrender to them.
perhaps if our living conditions were better after surrendering our minds and destinies into the hands of a handful of them, we would find an excuse for them and ourselves, but we are at the bottom in every field, and of least benefit to humanity in areas of medicine and inventions.
it is therefore stupid to continue to submit to those who change their views from time to time, and it is not acceptable to purchase a musical instrument and then some come and prohibit their use and break them and then change their views and allow playing music during a large ceremony and in front of a large audience.
