the job of cleaning the hearts or water reservoirs in kuwaiti homes – the main source of water until almost 60 years ago – was done by the blind men. he was climbing down into the reservoir and cleaning up the bottom dust and anything that may have been dropped. this job did not need sight.
these blind men were walking the streets of kuwait shouting: ‘we clean the water reservoirs’. these days were hard and tough for many, but with the discovery of oil many things changed, including people, which became evil, and people with alien attitudes were attracted to kuwait because of the financial advantages, which made them drool.
in india, the 94-year-old aabid surti walks through the streets of his city and goes about knocking at the doors offering to fix any water tap leaks for free. surti, the surrealist painter, cartoonist and well-known author says he has spent money and even the award for his novel on repairing taps in homes and offices.
he says that, water leaks from taps upset him when he was a child and the sound of dropping water was like a small hammer striking him on the head. in order to contribute to putting an end to the waste, he devoted himself to repairing the taps, he added.
at first, surti hired a plumber and then dispensed with him and did the job himself. in justifying his passion for this task, he says that a person who is filled with love to his homeland must do something for his community, and when there is love, destiny undertakes to provide money to do such a thing. he believes he has contributed in saving 20 million liters of drinking water alone and that he will continue to do the work happily and if peers his age can do the job, they must do which all of us can do.
we go back to kuwait, and say some of the new scammers have established fictitious companies which randomly contact people via whatsapp saying they are ready to repair any water leaks and treat moisture without breaking through the ceilings or walls, using the latest modern devices and boast of a team of technicians specializing in sanitary and chemical insulation works, for tiled and non-tiled roofs, repair of swimming pools, bathrooms, kitchens and elevator rooms with warranty.
but once they arrive at the house, they run a check and then quote huge sums of money to fix the faults and owners often refuse the offer.
then there are those who during the month of ramadan sell copies of the holy quran for even one dinar and also offer to distribute them to the people who need it. in this case manipulation cannot be ruled out since the sale price is much higher than the actual cost of printing the quran let alone distributing it to those in need. primarily it is not permitted to sell the quran by phone and the identity of those who have printed it is unknown. so be careful of such people.
