‘Traditions & honesty lost’
the most pessimistic citizens believe that kuwait has lost a virtuous and distinguished minister, but in reality, the loss is even greater.
kuwait has lost some of its innocence. it lost the virtue of good thinking. it has lost much of its traditions and honesty (politically speaking) which our forefathers had built. in today’s kuwait, the ‘strong’ have become victorious over the ‘weak’. kuwait has lost the blessings of truthfulness in all circumstances.
political life in the coming years will remember the period before and after the interrogation of jenan bushehri. the role played by this woman in protecting public money, and what followed after her grilling when half of the members of the national assembly have come to realize that reform in the country is impossible.
the minister confronted the so-called deputies of construction companies, owners of large offices, large media institutions, stakeholders and influential people, some of whom are involved knee-deep in religious-political affairs and with all the manifestations of religiosity they did not hesitate to infringe on public money but were instrumental in getting rid of the minister who revealed their corruption and stopped for the first time in the history of kuwait, what all her predecessors did.
minister jenan bushehri said in her last speech: ‘i stand with my head held high in front of the interrogation concerning contractors and companies, proud of every decision i have taken to protect the state and public money, and proud that some of those who have shown confidence in me were those who did not sign the transactions or entertained appointments or lifted the suspension of a suspended company, and did not agree to make payments to their companies.’
she added, ‘i stood for (protecting) the public money and the state, and i paid the price, so i announced my resignation and put it in the hands of the prime minister.’
she confronted them in the parliament, looked at their faces, and saw in some of the tools that sold the homeland for their own interests.
