Society numb to graft

our skins have become thick like the skins of elephants. we no longer have any feelings and we have become like fish out of water because everything that happens and what we hear — problems and issues about bribery and corruption, nothing impresses us any longer because these issues no longer make an impression on us, bad or good. how can we take for granted that the 22,000 students who are sent abroad on scholarships will run our country in future and handle all issues related to finance, corruption, and religion? i say this because these students are m a n i p u l a t o r s and do not attend lectures at their universities for more than a week a year. how can a sane person, read what was published on the front page of al-jarida newspaper on dec 12, 2017 and turn a blind eye? despite the fact that ministry of higher education has requested the civil service commission to draw up a list of names of the so-called ‘manipulators’ so that they will not be recommended for supervisory positions in future, the mechanism to implement this is not yet known. how can the ministry stand against the intervention of parents, lawmakers and ministers if the employment of these students is rejected? here we talk also about the reputation of the universities which have accepted them. in plain language if they were reputable, how come these universities tolerate the ‘one-week’ attendance a year. why these universities did not dismiss them. surprisingly, even the ministry of higher education in kuwait knows nothing about this issue. the ministry is not serious about the students because it does not take pains to find out if the concerned university has a bad reputation. how so many students combine between their jobs in kuwait and study abroad at the same time is hard to understand? there are hundreds of questions which begin with ‘why’ and ‘how’. on the other hand, a citizen from one of the gulf states, in a strange case of forgery not only got a citizenship for himself but also his two brothers. the forger entered kuwait from a land border post and then succeeded in bringing his two brothers in the same manner he had entered and using wasta, bribe and other means obtained the kuwaiti nationality for the brothers and registered them in his citizenship file as his sons. he then registered one of them with the concerned authority as severely handicapped. we do not care how all this happened. there are thousands of others and no one knows it better than saleh al-fadhala, but we are interested in estimating the very large number of state employees, mainly the fasting people who seldom pray (men of religion), who helped this person and his brothers to enter the country hundreds of thousands of dinars are spent each year in the form of salaries, allowances, medical services, subsidized materials, social assistance, medical services and medicines. how could this almost an illiterate fraudster deceive the department of citizenship and passports, the public authority for the disabled affairs, the medical committees, the ministry of defense, the public authority for civil information, the public authority for housing welfare, the finance bank and other government agencies? how does this happen in a country where there are more than 1,600 mosques, and the state spends hundreds of millions of dinars on them and on the ministry of awqaf and islamic affairs, which is concerned with the guidance of the nation? the construction of the silk road is easy; it only needs a few billions, and hundreds of thousands of foreign workers, but how to build a good citizen is a million-dollar question? we thank the department of investigation at the ministry of the interior and major-general mazen al jarrah for disclosing the name of the syrian who bribed four kuwaitis to add the names of his four sons to their files to obtain the kuwaiti nationality. who will reveal the names of the rest of the 200,000 forgers and 200,000 kuwaitis who have accepted the bribe?
