Is it a point of no return?
certainly, your highness, you are aware that someday someone will occupy your position, so it would be nice if you ended your tenure with the best achievements which will remember your name forever, and you have taken the first step in this direction, most importantly you have begun the journey of a thousand miles.
sir, we are fed up, we are disgusted, despair after despair has enveloped our feelings because of the corrupt practices of a few over the past few years. most institutions of kuwait breed the corrupt and dishonest people.
how can we accept the theft of billions of dinars? take for example the kuwait oil tankers company (kotc), the dow chemicals and the overseas medical treatment. all that we have done until now is we have stood idle without blinking our eyelids.
you’re highness! how can you tolerate kuwait, the pearl of the gulf, which the entire world envied, has reached a point of no return to such an extent that on the scale of corruption we have slipped from the 53rd to the 85th position over the past three years.
how can we remain mum in the face of thefts by some mps, embezzlement of money in most cooperative societies, people who sell foodstuffs unfit for human consumption, people who continue to smuggle alcohol into the country in huge containers, money embezzled by those who are involved in building our roads, etc, etc.
how to remain mum in the face of the corrupt people who supply furniture and medicines, people who smuggle forbidden items inside the central prison in spite of the tight security, people who smuggle out of the country people wanted by law through land, air and sea ports.
how can we remain mum in the face of those who steal subsidized commodities, the theft at the public authority for the disabled affairs (pada), theft in labor support, thefts of aid for the elderly, theft at the awqaf, theft of the ministry of interior hospitality budget, investments, health offices, retirees’ money, human traffickers, and so on.
this is in addition to hundreds of other scandals and the list goes on, some items on which cannot even be remembered.
you in the name of the council of ministers has taken the first step by forming a committee comprising personnel from various ministries and state institutions to discuss why kuwait dropped to a lower level on the global corruption perceptions index 2017 and taken measures to rectify kuwait’s situation.
all this is beautiful, but you know more than others the fate of dozens of committees which were formed during your tenure and before you took charge of the government which has come up with nothing concrete. we put the secretariat of this committee under your responsibility. it is the last hope to stop our continued deterioration.
we respect your feelings because you resent what the media has published about the decline of kuwait’s position because it tarnishes the image and reputation of the country and the ruling family, but resentment alone is not enough.
abu sabah, we are not asking much from you, only the application of the law at an accelerated pace. if you do this, the mothers of kuwaitis will feel the future of their children and grandchildren is secure and the foreign investor will feel reassured about the market improvement.
only with deterrent measures can kuwait come out of the shameful and disgraceful place in global corruption perceptions index if we want to see the kuwait of our choice.
